Fraud Text Alerts Coming 12/5/19!

Important Information About Legitimate Fraud Alert Texts:
We will never ask for your account number or other identifying information in these texts. You will only be asked to respond either ‘YES’ or ‘NO’ in relation to a potentially suspicious transaction (see details below). If you receive a text asking you to provide your account number, debit card information or other personal details, or to call a phone number to provide personal information: This is not legitimate, and you should not respond. We will never notify you via text that your debit card is blocked and request personal information in order to unblock the card.

As part of our ongoing commitment to help protect you from fraud, Industrial CU has worked to implement enhanced fraud monitoring and verification. Starting December 5, members with a cell phone number on file will be eligible to receive text message alerts when a potentially suspicious transaction is attempted with their debit card.

Potentially Suspicious Transactions

Every time your debit card is used, that transaction information is stored and used to further analyze your standard purchase behavior. Over time, our systems learn how much you spend, where you spend and with what kind of frequency. This allows us to make better predictions of when your card or card number might be used fraudulently.

When our fraud system detects a potentially suspicious transaction, we want to be able to stop that transaction to minimize potential losses, but don’t want to impact your legitimate purchases. Our text alert feature will allow us to immediately challenge unusual transactions and communicate with you quickly to determine whether the use of your card is legitimate.

How Do Text Alerts Work?

When a transaction is attempted that we think may be suspicious, you will be notified immediately via text so that you can respond in real time. The text will provide basic information about the transaction including date, last 4 digits of the debit card, purchase amount, merchant name and location.

  • If it is a legitimate transaction, you will be asked to respond ‘YES’ to the text. We will then unblock the card and you can retry the transaction right away.
  • If the transaction is not legitimate, you will be asked to respond ‘NO’ to the text. The compromised card will immediately be blocked from performing any additional transactions and we will get a new card ordered for you.

What Information Will I Have To Share?

Please note that we will never ask for your account number or other identifying information in these texts. You will only be asked to respond either ‘YES’ or ‘NO’ in relation to a potentially suspicious transaction. If you receive a text asking you to provide your account number, debit card information or other personal details, or to call a phone number to provide personal information: This is not legitimate, and you should not respond. We will never notify you via text that your debit card is blocked and request personal information in order to unblock the card.

We are excited to offer this real-time solution to help keep your money safe and secure with minimal impact to your regular purchases. If you have a cell phone number on file with us, you will automatically be eligible to receive these alerts and do not need to take any additional action to enroll. If you do not have a cell phone number on file with us, please contact us at (360) 734-2043 or visit any branch to add this information to your account.
